In a perfect world

By John Kaminski

{Editor’s note: This story first appeared in 1991 in Leisure Weekly,
Keene, NH, USA, where the author was once managing editor.]

A good society is a means to a good life for those who compose it; not
something having a kind of excellence on its own account.
— Bertrand Russell

In a perfect world, there would be no soldiers, no police, no crime, no
hatred, no oil spills. A ritually stabilized world population,
structured so each person connected with an actualized family unit,
would have behaviorally internalized integrity and civility and this
was reflected in friendly social behavior and totally amiable
international relations.

In a perfect world people, would live closer to the land, leave a
lighter footprint on the epidermis of the planet. One thinks of
Indians, gliding across a world with a much lighter footfall, as a
higher form of civilization — big-picture-wise — than our own.

One recent story postulated that the collective sound made by the human
race — think of jet engines and nuclear tests, please — is having a
disintegrating effect on the tectonic structure of the planet.
Planetary harmonics would be a hot occupation in a perfect world.

One also thinks of ancient Greeks, who regarded the planet as a living
organism — a “zoon” — to be thought of in the second person — as a
“you” rather than an “it.” If you go back far enough in ancient
history, you come to a time when speech and logic had no third person.
The ability to conceptualize comes, as revealed in Homer, accompanied
by rationalized hallucinations for that substantial part of human
existence that cannot be named very accurately.

It was something called thumos that men felt upon going into the battle
for Troy, an emotion something akin to heart, spirit, and soul, and it
drove men to kill. In a perfect world this “thumos” would have been
completely ritualized into games and nontoxic religious/philosophical
practices.

Aggression, in a perfect world, would be unacceptable behavior,
especially since a planetary legal network was in perfect working
order, untainted by commercial corruption. In a perfect world the
dilemma of aggression and sexuality would still not have been
completely worked out.

In a perfect world, the unchallenged distortion now extant in society
in the matter of self-advantage would have been unlearned and in its
place, the maxim “you may not live this life for yourself” would have
been imbued in public consciousness. Jesus and Sartre agreed on this
one.

There would be no cops because everybody would be their own police
chief, with a responsibility for oneself that does not reflect true
responsibility until it demonstrably and positively affects someone
else, on a continuing basis. Heck, who’d have time for crime.

There would be no war because everybody would have enough to eat, the
world government saw to it. Those xenophobes who saw world government
as a threat to their own selfish aggrandizement were laughed into
babbling anonymity long ago.

In a perfect world, would be crystal clear that all humans are one
family, no matter what the color of their skin, the cut of their hair,
or the name of the God they pray to.

Ah, but in a perfect world, the name of the Gods they prayed to would
all be understood as synonyms. Not only that, but in a perfect world,
God would have regained her female element, so that respect for this
lush, bounteous cushion upon which we live would have overshdowed the
fashionable, testosteronic bloodlust which had once oppressed the
masses and turned the planet into a toilet.

The key part to creating a perfect world is very much like the creation
of the United States of America: principles codified for the common
good. It’s striking to realize the sincere human dignity of our
founding mothers and fathers, particularly compared to the sterile,
shrill pronouncements of our current establishment. This is what is
missing. I keep saying it. I won’t change.

What is missing from our current structure of government is something
you can find in your home. The presence of kids practically guarantees
you have it. You can put any name you want on it — I like real life.
Some would call it love.

That’s what’s missing from the forces flushing the world down the
sewer. This is not a planet to be covered with asphalt and riddled with
electronic impulses and funky chemicals. It’s our home, and damned if —
really — we know the first thing about it.

In a perfect world this would be obvious, and the respect accorded to
every aspect of our environment would, of course, be second nature.

And we would run our governments and businesses as if they were built
to serve the home, because they were. And because of this, we would
have more time to tell our children that we love them.

In a perfect world we would understand all the larger implications of
our actions. We would be much more sensitive. We would understand that
nobody ever learned anything by winning all the time. We would
understand that profit in one sense is always loss in another. We would
not drink Cokes and Pepsis.

In a perfect world, a kind of tripartite schizophrenia would govern
social thought and legal sanctions: in addition to mental and physical
concerns, the human personality would include another category of
thinking. You could call it spiritual, but that word has long since
become too freighted due to the efforts of establishment religions —
ineffable is a better word.

So many of the things in life we truly want — love, children, and safe
home, a community of friends in which one can take sincere pride — all
are ineffable. You can’t quite reach out and touch them, but you sure
can feel them in the silence of your heart.

In a perfect world, every action would be precipitated by first
thinking of such things, ineffable things.

In a perfect world, the government would have the ultimate
responsibility of eliminating misery. Corporations which manufactured
products useful to humanity would pay taxes three times lower that
corporations that made money merely by shuffling more money.

In a perfect world, children would not aspire to be Operation Desert
Storm warriors and trade playing cards glorifying unmentioned
slaughter. Instead, they would aspire to be healers; the untamably
aggressive would be architects.

In a perfect world, people would write a lot about what a perfect world
really means. The government would not be afraid of new ideas because
it was simply a collection of them anyway. A government afraid of new
ideas is generally a government with something to hide.

In a perfect world, everyone would vote and no one would run for any
office. In a perfect world, all officials served only one term at
anything because it was obvious, as the Greeks had known, that
government service required no special attributes and that one person
could do these jobs as well as another. Problems are inevitable when
people stay too long in power.

And above all else in a perfect world, we would have learned that we
may not fear what we may not avoid, because all those things are only
creatures of our own creation.

Subject: Ambassador's remarks...

Of all the HYPOCRISY! US Ambassador to Peru James Struble, telling President Chavez to stay out of other countries' affairs ... this from the Ambassador from the Court of 'King George.'

Let's make a list of some of the countries the United States of America invaded or overthrew democracy for 'Big Business' ... or just did not like the people's choice.

1. Iraq and today the death toll for Iraqi civilians is over 200,000!

2. Iran.

3. Iran.

3. Afghanistan.

4. Haiti, a few times.

5. Panama.

6. Colombia.

7. Hawaii.

8. Cuba.

9. Philippines.

10. China.

11. Nicaragua.

12. Vietnam.

13. Cambodia.

14. Guam.

15. Samoa, today known as "American Somoa" and infamous for Congressman DeLay and Jack Abramoff Labor Laws. non-existence.

16. Puerto Rico.

17. El Salvador.

18. Granada.

19. Dominican Republic, a few times.

20. Guatemala.

21. The Native American nations of the United States ... it's kind of genocide in work.

This United States government "of the few, for the few," may it end up in history as a very sad chapter of when one party i.e. republican, destroys the Constitution and the Bill of Rights for their own power!

Train Wreck of the Week

We are curious why some banks are instructing their employees how to handle customers in the event of a collapse in the US economy - specifically telling employees that only agents from the Department of Fatherland Security will have authority to decide what belongings customers may have from their safe deposit boxes and that precious metals and other valuables will not be released to US citizens. The employees are told not to tell anyone but they have. Ask your banker next time you visit him or her. Don’t get too pushy if you can’t get an answer as FEMA has facilities in their concentration camps for one million people. If you have valuables such as gold and silver coins and bullion in a safe deposit box get them out. Buy a safe and keep them at home or bury them. We were told about ten years ago by a banker that we couldn’t keep currency in our safe deposit box. You have to remember that George and the neocons are above the law. They have the Patriot Act and they have usurped the Posse Comitatus plus secret executive orders we know nothing about. On the face of it we have no freedom left. You may not want to hear this but the outcome is now inevitable. The US will collapse economically and financially over the next several years and it will take the rest of the world with it. The war on terror is a ruse. It is being used as an excuse to control the American people and to keep them enslaved. Your only salvation financially is gold and silver related assets. Your government is not in anyway prepared to meet your needs. They do not care about you or what you think. If they cared they’d protect your borders and not allow 20 million illegal aliens to enter our country. Terrorism is a hoax; a scam and 45% of Americans have fallen for it.

Wait until China starts selling US Treasury paper in a big way. We expect that to happen after Congress passes legislation putting a 27 1/2% tariff on Chinese goods. That tariff is totally justified because China’s currency, if it were allowed to float, would be 40% higher in value as would the currencies of many other nations who have been doing the same thing.

If US, British and Israeli forces attack and invade Iran it will totally bankrupt the US sending it right over the financial edge. China will be very unhappy with nuclear fallout killing millions of its citizens. There is a fair chance China may retaliate and Russia just might join them.

There is no such thing as coincidence. The termination of the publication of M3 happens three days prior to the opening of the Iranian Bourse. The increase in M3 and credit over the past nine months has been astounding. Those numbers are important to economists and analysts. We expect an absolute deluge of aggregates, which will lead to hyperinflation and the elitist Fed and other central bankers and your government doesn’t want you to know what is going on. The Iranian Oil Bourse isn’t only about oil and euros; it is about dethroning the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. That is why we are lambasted with propaganda and disinformation in support of neocon ambitions in Afghanistan, Iraq, our Congress, the Fed and in the White House.

Why shouldn’t Iran have nuclear power? Thirty-three nations have 441 operating reactors. Israel had nuclear power secretly in the late 1950s and had nuclear bombs in the early 1960s. They had no authorization. They did what they wanted to do secretly. Seven more countries are pursing nuclear power. Why is Iran so special? Even if Iran had nuclear weapons they would not be a threat to the US or Israel. This is a propaganda campaign created to allow the invasion of Iran and the theft of its oil just as the US and UK did in Iraq. The nuclear threat is just bait, which half of Americans have taken hook, line and sinker. America has to stop the operation of the Iranian Bourse because it will collapse the imperial American empire by destroying the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. By trading oil in euros there is no reason for countries who are oil buyers to hold large amounts of dollars in reserve. In time they may be able to purchase oil in their own currencies. If little else nations want diversity in their reserves. Who wants to hold dollars that are deliberately being depreciated? Someday again dollars may be again called Continentals. What is at stake here is the world monopoly on wealth based on the power of the Federal Reserve and the Bank of England - a monopoly that has been sucking our wealth from us for generations. Our government is bankrupt and if we do not get rid of the Federal Reserve we will never be free or solvent. The system is on the verge of collapse. The only question is when? If we cannot get Congress to act immediately on our behalf you are going to lose all you own. The only safe investment now is gold and silver related assets.

Whether Americans realize it or not America is in crisis. The foreign policy of preventative war and administration economic policies have led to unprecedented and unsustainable budget and current account deficits and the further deterioration of our national infrastructure.

How can a nation of intelligent people back a White House that systematically lies to the American people about everything as a normal matter of course? Strategically the Iraq War has proven to be the greatest mistake in our history. We have more than 200,000 troops, mercenaries and contractors in Iraq living and fighting in a disintegrating situation militarily and politically that has all the factors of a civil war. Among the Sunnis alone our military is facing 300,000 combatants. You then have the population’s passive support numbering some three million. We are in a totally untenable situation militarily and politically.

Fever Dream: Fast Foward to the End of Democracy
Friday, 27 January 2006
A version of this column appears in the Jan. 27th edition of The Moscow Times.

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2006 – Heralding a "bold new era of unity and reform" in Washington, President George W. Bush quelled a series of controversies over the limits of executive power today by signing a sweeping new measure, the Extending the Boundaries of Legality Act (EBOLA), in a gala ceremony at the White House.

The measure, passed overwhelmingly by Congress last week, acknowledges "the inherent authority of the Commander-in-Chief to take all necessary measures to preserve the security of the United States without fear of penalty or undue constraint by existing statutes, judicial rulings, foreign jurisdictions or international treaties." This immunized authority is to be exercised "at the discretion of the president," and can be "devolved upon any and all designated agents, public and private, of the executive." The act also relieves the president of the "onerous and inefficient bureaucratic requirement" of informing Congress of his actions.

EBOLA puts an end to a number of debates, investigations and court cases concerning such issues as warrantless wiretapping, domestic surveillance by the Pentagon, aggressive interrogation techniques, indefinite detention, incarceration without charges, "ghost prisoners," covert abduction, rendition of suspects to torture-practicing states, extrajudicial termination of arbitrarily designated "enemy combatants," no-bid contracts to politically-connected firms, unmasking covert agents for partisan purposes and waging unprovoked war on the basis of manipulated and manufactured intelligence.

All of these matters have now been rendered moot by EBOLA, which formally extends "the sanctity of law to all actions, past, present and future, ordered by the president in the exercise of his full plenary powers."

The measure is an outgrowth of Senate hearings that began in early February. First launched as a probe into "serious charges" that Bush's personally-ordered surveillance of American citizens without a warrant was illegal – a charge upheld by the non-partisan Congressional Research Office – the hearing quickly evolved into a ringing endorsement of unchecked presidential power by the Republican majority, joined by Democratic moderates such as Joe Lieberman, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

Indeed, Clinton served as co-sponsor of EBOLA, which was introduced by Republican Senator George Allen. Many observers said Allen signaled the wiretap hearings' true direction in a CNN interview on January 22, when, citing the timely appearance of a taped message allegedly from former CIA ally Osama bin Laden, the conservative senator suddenly embraced the idea of hearings – a notion previously resisted by many on the Right.

"I find nothing wrong with having a hearing," Allen told CNN. "This maybe ought to be something that you would ratify – 'Yes, the president has this authority.'"

Once that door was open, Republican senators, working closely with top Justice Department officials and deputy White House chief of staff Karl Rove, moved quickly to extend their ratification of presidential authority. "How far should we go, Karl?" joked committee chairman Arlen Specter during one of many light-hearted moments of playful raillery at the hearings. "To infinity – and beyond!" replied Rove with a chuckle, quoting a line from "Toy Story," said to be one of Mr. Bush's favorite films.

Administration officials lauded EBOLA as a "great leap forward for America," ending a "dangerous era when we had to battle a 21st-century threat with 18th-century tools," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan. "The Founding Fathers would never have encumbered us with all these 'checks and balances' and the Bill of Rights had they known that the smoking gun of terrorism could be a mushroom cloud. "

But the Act is not just a victory for George W. Bush, it's also a "triumph of the human spirit," McClellan said. "Just as this president has brought freedom and democracy to benighted areas of the world where these blessings were never known before, so he is now bringing the light of legality to entire realms of human behavior that have long been considered beyond the reach of law. Murder, torture, kidnapping, corruption, despotism – it's time to bring these orphans in from the cold, and make a place for them at the American family table."

Yet even as he lauded the Act's innovations, McClellan also brushed aside suggestions from some critics that EBOLA represented a "radical" departure from traditional conservatism. "On the contrary, the measure is firmly rooted in the historical tradition," he said. "The notion of the 'unitary executive' – or the Leader-Principle as it is sometimes called – was actually pioneered in north-central Europe in the first half of the 20th century. It was a proven method that allowed the head of state to act with efficiency and dispatch in exercising his inherent authority to protect the public from national enemies. We are simply building upon this solid foundation as we carry the banner of civilization across new frontiers."

Democratic opposition to the bill, which effectively ends constitutional democracy in the United States, was muted in the end. Party leaders said they were "saving their ammunition for the big battles up ahead" – echoing earlier rhetoric following their equally muted responses to Mr. Bush's tax cuts for the rich, his deceitful invasion of Iraq, his environmental rapine, his worldwide gulag, his torture programs and his appointment of two Supreme Court justices clearly committed to presidential tyranny, corporate hegemony, financial corruption and the subjugation of women's bodies to state control.

Having meekly countenanced the destruction of the republic and the repression of its people, Democratic leaders were asked exactly what "battle" they were "saving their ammunition" for. "School lunches," said Senator Biden. "Our children are our future, and we will fight to the death the Bush Administration's unconscionable proposal to substitute baked beans for broccoli in the federal guidelines for dinnertime vegetables."

Voice of the White House January 27, 2006

TBR News.com – January 27, 2006

“I know from the private Republican polls (the ones you never see and never get into the media) that they are in serious danger of losing control of the government come November. The problem is that although the rank and file, and the leadership, know this, they cannot communicate to Bush that sea changes have to be made, at least cosmetic ones, or public anger will get to the point that impeachment is a probability.

Frankly, our President is a nut. He won’t listen to anyone and does what he wants. The stupid twit actually believes he is some kind of God and can do anything he likes whenever he likes it. Thank God Bush doesn’t get the urge to shoot a hunting rifle at passing tourists. His bizarre and distasteful sex life coupled with his binge drinking makes him a true menace. People thought a lecherous Clinton was bad but this one makes Clinton look like St. Vincent DePaul by comparison.

The leadership has more or less decided that since Bush will not change, he will simply have to go to save the rest of them or, if they are ideologues, for the common good. For themselves, not necessarily for the American people.

Although Bush stubbornly refuses to release any document which he feels might make him look bad, others are doing just that. Tens of thousands of pages of memos, reports, notes, tapes, and all kinds of priceless milestones on George W. Bush’s journey to the underworld are being assembled and studied for possible “leaks.”

I have seen some of these and am now going to do my frightened friends a huge favor by publishing some of the more awful ones.

For example: According to in-house memos now circulating, the DHS has issued orders to banks across America which announce to them that “under the Patriot Act” (whatever that crap means) the DHS has the absolute right to seize, without any warrant whatsoever, any and all customer bank accounts, to make “periodic and unannounced” visits to any bank to open and inspect the contents of “selected safe deposit boxes.” Further, these boxes, taken from a DHS list of people who are considered “hostile to the present government, citizens who have visited outside the United States before or after 9/11 to countries now considered to be hostile to this country…” “ :Russia, Peoples Republic of China, Mexico, Guatemala, Spain, Italy, Egypt, France, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Turkey or the Sudan…” or any citizen who has a bank account in any of those listed countries are considered to be of legitimate interest in the “ongoing investigations into foreign and domestic terrorism.”

Further, the DHA “shall, at the discretion of the agent supervising the search, remove, photograph or seize as evidence…” any of the following items…”bar gold, gold coins, firearms of any kind unless manufactured prior to 1878, documents such as passports or foreign bank account records, pornography or any material that, in the opinion of the agent, shall be deemed of to be of a contraband nature.”

DHS memos also state that banks are informed that any bank employee, on any level, that releases “improper” “classified DHS Security information” to any member of the public, to include the customers whose boxes have been clandestinely opened and inspected and “any other party, to include members of the media” and further “that the posting of any such information on the internet will be grounds for the immediate termination of the said employee or employees and their prosecution under the Patriot Act.”

Currently, the two major targets of these completely illegal and warrantless searches and seizures, are the California-based Bank of America and the Compass Bank. The former is one of the largest banks in the United States and Compass Bank ( Compass Bancshares, Inc). is a $30.1 billion Southwestern financial holding company which operates 385 full-service banking centers including 139 in Texas, 89 in Alabama, 73 in Arizona, 42 in Florida, 32 in Colorado and 10 in New Mexico.

Of extraordinary interest to the DHS are Bank of America records relating to their Bank Of America <>‘SafeSend Money to Mexico’<> program.

It should be noted that the DHS states that “in the event that the owners of these confiscated objects do not file an administrative complaint within three (3) months subsequent to said confiscation, the aforesaid items shall pass to the permanent custody of the DHS”

Isn’t that wonderful? You and your wife are visiting relatives in France, Uncle Einar’s $100,000 collection of gold coins is lifted out of your box and you don’t get back to the United States for two months and don’t check your looted box for another four months. My, some nice DHS person, or maybe two, has a nice new BMW to show off to his neighbors. Tough luck, Uncle Einar!

Oh, and you might like to know that the spate of “robberies” of bank credit card and personal data that took place in and around February of 2005, were not robberies at all. The DHS, using its muscle, simply went off with trucks full of data to mine at their leisure. The banks involved said nothing, and will say nothing. If they do, their people will be at a nice Federal country club, making shoes for the Army while the DHS bosses, to include the FEMA thieves, will be buying property on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills or Palm Desert. Or some nice marina like Marine del Ray to keep their nice new 150’ yacht.

To date, in California alone (the only report I have seen) over 1,500 banks have been “visited” and boxes rifled between January, 2005 and January, 2006.

Next time, something about DARPA to amuse and entertain you all.”

A clear and present danger to America
By DOUG THOMPSON
Publisher, Capitol Hill Blue
Jan 27, 2006, 05:11

George W. Bush, the out-of-control despot who thinks the Presidency of the United States is a license to lie at will, wage war on a whim and break the law without recrimination, put on his “I am in charge” face Thursday and, for all practical purposes, told anyone who thinks his powers should be subject to review or oversight to go screw themselves.

Bush told reporters that he will assert his “presidential prerogatives” any damn way he pleases and will do so without apology, without question and without concern for the law, the Constitution or the rights of Americans.

His press conference was a frightening study of a madman on a tear, an insane, power-mad tyrant who believes he is above the law and cannot be questioned. Sadly, it appears no one has the balls to questions his lunacy.

“I'm going to continue do everything within my authority to protect the American people,” Bush told reporters. That’s Bushspeak for “I’m in charge here you dumb pukes and there ain’t a damn thing you can do about it.”

“We'll continue our terrorist surveillance program against al Qaeda. Congress must reauthorize the Patriot Act so that our law enforcement and intelligence and homeland security officers have the tools they need to route the terrorists -- terrorists who could be planning and plotting within our borders,” he said. Translation: “I’ll spy on Americans, I’m use the Constitution to wipe my ass and I’ll declare marital law and run this country like the dictator I want so desperately to be.”

On his illegal actions authorizing the National Security Agency to spy on Americans, Bush said “If the attempt to write law …is likely to expose the nature of the program, I'll resist it.” What he is saying is “I’m above the law, goddamnit, and I’ll fight every attempt to make me obey the law.

On the Iraq war, Bush declared: “there is an act passed by Congress in 2001 which said that I must have the power to conduct this war using the incidents of war. In other words, we believe there's a constitutional power granted to Presidents, as well as, this case, a statutory power. And I'm intending to use that power -- Congress says, go ahead and conduct the war, we're not going to tell you how to do it.”

I worked on Capitol Hill for a number of years and wrote more than my share of legislation. I know a thing or two about how the government is designed to work and the checks and balances that are supposed to be built into the system. I’ve also read what Congress passed and nothing in that act or the Constitution gives Bush the authority he claims or the power he abuses. He’s not just a liar. He’s a god-damned liar.

The arrogance surfaced often as he faced the press. His eyes darted from side to side, blinking rapidly – a textbook example of a maniac on the loose. His temper threatened to erupt more than once because a couple of reporters actually had the gall to actually question his motives.

After too many years watching this man destroy what once was a great nation, I can only conclude that Bush is insane and his insanity is protected by a brain-dead populace and a power-mad political party that can’t possibly accept the sad fact that they helped put a madman in charge of our government and have kept him there.

I believe with all my soul that George W. Bush and the Republicans who rubber-stamp his actions represent a clear and present danger to the peace and security of the United States and all must be removed from office immediately if this nation is to survive.

And those are words I never, ever, thought I’d write about a President or other elected officials of this country. And I wish, with all my heart that I did not have to write them now.

But those who love this country and put patriotism above politics must act. America, if it wishes to remain America, must remove the cancer that threatens to destroy it.

Explosive Testimony:
Revelations about the Twin Towers in the 9/11 Oral Histories

David Ray Griffin

“[T]here was just an explosion [in the south tower]. It seemed like on television [when] they blow up these buildings. It seemed like it was going all the way around like a belt, all these explosions.”--Firefighter Richard Banaciski

“I saw a flash flash flash [at] the lower level of the building. You know like when they demolish a building?”--Assistant Fire Commissioner Stephen Gregory

“[I]t was [like a] professional demolition where they set the charges on certain floors and then you hear 'Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop'."--Paramedic Daniel Rivera

____________________________________________________________________

The above quotations come from a collection of 9/11 oral histories that, although recorded by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) at the end of 2001, were publicly released only on August 12, 2005. Prior to that date, very few Americans knew the content of these accounts or even the fact that they existed.

Why have we not known about them until recently? Part of the answer is that the city of New York would not release them until it was forced to do so. Early in 2002, the New York Times requested copies under the freedom of information act, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration refused. So the Times, joined by several families of 9/11 victims, filed suit. After a long process, the city was finally ordered by the New York Court of Appeals to release the records (with some exceptions and redactions allowed). Included were oral histories, in interview form, provided by 503 firefighters and medical workers.1 (Emergency Medical Services had become a division within the Fire Department.2) The Times then made these oral histories publicly available.3

Once the content of these testimonies is examined, it is easy to see why persons concerned to protect the official story about 9/11 would try to keep them hidden. By suggesting that explosions were occurring in the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, they pose a challenge to the official account of 9/11, according to which the towers were caused to collapse solely by the impact of the airplanes and the resulting fires.

In any case, now that the oral histories have finally been released, it is time for Americans and the world in general to see what these brave men and women reported about that fateful day. If this information forces a reevaluation of the official story about 9/11, better now than later.

That said, it must be added that although these oral histories are of great significance, they do not contain the first reports of explosions in the Twin Towers. Such reports---from firefighters, reporters, and people who had worked in the towers---started becoming available right after 9/11.

These reports, however, were not widely publicized by the mainstream press and, as a result, have for the most part been known only within the “9/11 truth movement,” which has focused on evidence that seems inconsistent with the official story.

I will begin by summarizing some of those previously available reports. Readers will then be able to see that although in some respects the newly released oral histories simply add reinforcement, they also are revelatory documents: Some of the testimonies are quite stunning, even to people familiar with the earlier reports; and there are now so many testimonies that even the most skeptical reader is likely to find the cumulative effect impressive.

Previously Available Testimony Suggestive of Explosions in the Twin Towers

The day after 9/11, a story in the Los Angeles Times, referring to the south tower, said: “There were reports of an explosion right before the tower fell, then a strange sucking sound, and finally the sound of floors collapsing."4

A story in the Guardian said that “police and fire officials were carrying out the first wave of evacuations when the first of the World Trade Centre towers collapsed. Some eyewitnesses reported hearing another explosion just before the structure crumbled. Police said that it looked almost like a ‘planned implosion.’"5

“Planned implosion” is another term for controlled demolition, in which explosives are placed at crucial places throughout a building so that, when set off in the proper order, they will cause the building to come down in the desired way. When it is close to other buildings, the desired way will be straight down into, or at least close to, the building’s footprint, so that it does not damage the surrounding buildings. This type of controlled demolition is called an “implosion.” To induce an implosion in steel-frame buildings, the explosives must be set so as to break the steel columns. Each of the Twin Towers had 47 massive steel columns in its core and 236 steel columns around the periphery.

To return now to testimonies about explosions: There were many reports about an explosion in the basement of the north tower. For example, janitor William Rodriguez reported that he and others felt an explosion below the first sub-level office at 9 AM, after which co-worker Felipe David, who had been in front of a nearby freight elevator, came into the office with severe burns on his face and arms yelling "explosion! explosion! explosion!"6

Rodriguez’s account has been corroborated by José Sanchez, who was in the workshop on the fourth sub-level. Sanchez said that he and a co-worker heard a big blast that “sounded like a bomb,” after which “a huge ball of fire went through the freight elevator.”7

Engineer Mike Pecoraro, who was working in the sixth sub-basement of the north tower, said that after an explosion he and a co-worker went up to the C level, where there was a small machine shop. “There was nothing there but rubble,” said Pecoraro. “We're talking about a 50 ton hydraulic press--gone!” They then went to the parking garage, but found that it was also gone. Then on the B level, they found that a steel-and-concrete fire door, which weighed about 300 pounds, was wrinkled up "like a piece of aluminum foil." Having seen similar things after the terrorist attack in 1993, Pecoraro was convinced that a bomb had gone off.8

Given these testimonies to explosions in the basement levels of the towers, it is interesting that Mark Loizeaux, head of Controlled Demolition, Inc., has been quoted as saying: “If I were to bring the towers down, I would put explosives in the basement to get the weight of the building to help collapse the structure.”9

Multiple Explosions

Some of the testimonies suggested that more than one explosion occurred in one tower or the other. FDNY Captain Dennis Tardio, speaking of the south tower, said: "I hear an explosion and I look up. It is as if the building is being imploded, from the top floor down, one after another, boom, boom, boom."10

In June of 2002, NBC television played segments from tapes recorded on 9/11. One segment contained the following exchange, which involved firefighters in the south tower:

Official: Battalion 3 to dispatch, we've just had another explosion.
Official: Battalion 3 to dispatch, we've had additional explosion.
Dispatcher: Received battalion command. Additional explosion.11

Firefighter Louie Cacchioli, after entering the north tower lobby and seeing elevator doors completely blown out and people being hit with debris, asked himself, “how could this be happening so quickly if a plane hit way above?” After he reached the 24th floor, he and another fireman “heard this huge explosion that sounded like a bomb [and] knocked off the lights and stalled the elevator.” After they pried themselves out of the elevator, “another huge explosion like the first one hits. This one hits about two minutes later . . . [and] I’m thinking, ‘Oh. My God, these bastards put bombs in here like they did in 1993!’”12

Multiple explosions were also reported by Teresa Veliz, who worked for a software development company in the north tower. She was on the 47th floor, she reported, when suddenly “the whole building shook. . . . [Shortly thereafter] the building shook again, this time even more violently." Then, while Veliz was making her way downstairs and outside: “There were explosions going off everywhere. I was convinced that there were bombs planted all over the place and someone was sitting at a control panel pushing detonator buttons. . . . There was another explosion. And another. I didn't know where to run."13

Steve Evans, a New York-based correspondent for the BBC, said: “I was at the base of the second tower . . . that was hit. . . . There was an explosion. . . . The base of the building shook. . . . [T]hen there was a series of explosions.”14

Sue Keane, an officer in the New Jersey Fire Police Department who was previously a sergeant in the U.S. Army, said in her account of the onset of the collapse of the south tower: “[I]t sounded like bombs going off. That's when the explosions happened. . . . I knew something was going to happen. . . . It started to get dark, then all of a sudden there was this massive explosion.” Then, discussing her experiences during the collapse of the north tower, she said: “[There was] another explosion. That sent me and the two firefighters down the stairs. . . . I can't tell you how many times I got banged around. Each one of those explosions picked me up and threw me. . . . There was another explosion, and I got thrown with two firefighters out onto the street.”15

Wall Street Journal reporter John Bussey, describing his observation of the collapse of the south tower from the ninth floor of the WSJ office building, said: “I . . . looked up out of the office window to see what seemed like perfectly synchronized explosions coming from each floor. . . . One after the other, from top to bottom, with a fraction of a second between, the floors blew to pieces.”16

Another Wall Street Journal reporter said that after seeing what appeared to be “individual floors, one after the other exploding outward,” he thought: “‘My God, they’re going to bring the building down.’ And they, whoever they are, HAD SET CHARGES. . . . I saw the explosions.”17

A similar perception was reported by Beth Fertig of WNYC Radio, who said: “It just descended like a timed explosion—like when they are deliberately bringing a building down. . . . It was coming down so perfectly that in one part of my brain I was thinking, 'They got everyone out, and they're bringing the building down because they have to.'”18

A more graphic testimony to this perception was provided on the film made by the Naudet brothers. In a clip from that film, one can watch two firemen describing their experiences to other firemen.

Fireman 1: “We made it outside, we made it about a block . . . .”

Fireman 2: “We made it at least two blocks and we started running.” He makes explosive sounds and then uses a chopping hand motion to emphasize his next point: “Floor by floor it started popping out . . . .”

Fireman 1: “It was as if they had detonated--as if they were planning to take down a building, boom boom boom boom boom . . . .”

Fireman 2: “All the way down. I was watching it and running. And then you just saw this cloud of shit chasing you down.”19

As these illustrations show, quite impressive testimony to the occurrence of explosions in the Twin Towers existed even prior to the release of the oral histories. As we will see, however, these oral histories have made the testimony much more impressive, qualitatively as well as quantitatively. The cumulative testimony now points even more clearly than before not simply to explosions but to controlled demolition.

Testimonies in the Oral Histories Suggestive of Controlled Demolition

Several FDNY members reported that they heard an explosion just before the south tower collapsed. For example, Battalion Chief John Sudnik said that while he and others were working at the command post, “we heard a loud explosion or what sounded like a loud explosion and looked up and I saw tower two start coming down.”20

Firefighter Timothy Julian said: “First I thought it was an explosion. I thought maybe there was a bomb on the plane, but delayed type of thing, you know secondary device. . . . I just heard like an explosion and then a cracking type of noise, and then it sounded like a freight train, rumbling and picking up speed, and I remember I looked up, and I saw it coming down.”21

Emergency medical technician Michael Ober said: “[W]e heard a rumble, some twisting metal, we looked up in the air, and . . . it looked to me just like an explosion. It didn’t look like the building was coming down, it looked like just one floor had blown completely outside of it. . . . I didn’t think they were coming down. I just froze and stood there looking at it.”22 Ober’s testimony suggests that he heard and saw the explosion before he saw any sign that the building was coming down.

This point is made even more clearly by Chief Frank Cruthers, who said: “There was what appeared to be at first an explosion. It appeared at the very top, simultaneously from all four sides, materials shot out horizontally. And then there seemed to be a momentary delay before you could see the beginning of the collapse."23

These statements by Ober and Cruthers, indicating that there was a delay between the explosion and the beginning of the collapse, suggest that the sounds and the horizontal ejection of materials could not be attributed simply to the onset of the collapse.

Shaking Ground before the Collapse

As we saw earlier, some people in the towers reported that there were powerful explosions in the basements. Such explosions would likely have caused the ground to shake.
Such shaking was reported by medical technician Lonnie Penn, who said that just before the collapse of the south tower: “I felt the ground shake, I turned around and ran for my life. I made it as far as the Financial Center when the collapse happened.”24

According to the official account, the vibrations that people felt were produced by material from the collapsing towers hitting the ground. Penn’s account, however, indicates that the shaking must have occurred several seconds before the collapse.

Shaking prior to the collapse of the north tower was described by fire patrolman Paul Curran. He was standing near it, he said, when “all of a sudden the ground just started shaking. It felt like a train was running under my feet. . . . The next thing we know, we look up and the tower is collapsing.”25

Lieutenant Bradley Mann of the fire department, one of the people to witness both collapses, described shaking prior to each of them. "Shortly before the first tower came down,” he said, “I remember feeling the ground shaking. I heard a terrible noise, and then debris just started flying everywhere. People started running." Then, after they had returned to the area, he said, “we basically had the same thing: The ground shook again, and we heard another terrible noise and the next thing we knew the second tower was coming down."26

Multiple Explosions

The oral histories contain numerous testimonies with reports of more than one explosion. Paramedic Kevin Darnowski, for example, said: "I started walking back up towards Vesey Street. I heard three explosions, and then we heard like groaning and grinding, and tower two started to come down.”27

Gregg Brady, an emergency medical technician, reported the same thing about the north tower, saying: “I heard 3 loud explosions. I look up and the north tower is coming down now."28

Somewhat more explosions were reported by firefighter Thomas Turilli, who said, referring to the south tower, that “it almost sounded like bombs going off, like boom, boom, boom, like seven or eight."29

Even more explosions were reported by Craig Carlsen, who said that while he and other firefighters were looking up at the towers, they “heard explosions coming from building two, the south tower. It seemed like it took forever, but there were about ten explosions. . . . We then realized the building started to come down.”30

“Pops”

As before, “pops” were reported by some witnesses. “As we are looking up at the [south tower],” said firefighter Joseph Meola, “it looked like the building was blowing out on all four sides. We actually heard the pops. Didn't realize it was the falling--you know, you heard the pops of the building. You thought it was just blowing out.”31

“Pops” were also reported by paramedic Daniel Rivera in the following exchange:

Q. How did you know that it [the south tower] was coming down?

A. That noise. It was noise.

Q. What did you hear? What did you see?

A. It was a frigging noise. At first I thought it was---do you ever see professional demolition where they set the charges on certain floors and then you hear 'Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop'? That's exactly what--because I thought it was that. When I heard that frigging noise, that's when I saw the building coming down.32

Collapse Beginning below the Strike Zone and Fire

According to the official account, the “pancaking” of the floors began when the floors above the strike zone, where the supports were weakened by the impact of the airplanes and the resulting fires, fell on the floors below. Some witnesses reported, however, that the collapse of the south tower began lower than the floors that were struck by the airliner and hence lower than the fires.

Timothy Burke reported that while he was watching flames coming out of the south tower, “the building popped, lower than the fire.” He later heard a rumor that “the aviation fuel fell into the pit, and whatever floor it fell on heated up really bad, and that's why it popped at that floor.” At the time, however, he said, “I was going oh, my god, there is a secondary device because the way the building popped. I thought it was an explosion.”33

This same twofold observation was made by firefighter Edward Cachia, who said: “As my officer and I were looking at the south tower, it just gave. It actually gave at a lower floor, not the floor where the plane hit. . . . [W]e originally had thought there was like an internal detonation, explosives, because it went in succession, boom, boom, boom, boom, and then the tower came down.”34

Other Indications of Controlled Demolition

Some witnesses reported other phenomena, beyond explosions, suggestive of controlled demolition.

The Appearance of Implosion: When a building close to other buildings is brought down by controlled demolition, as mentioned earlier, it typically implodes and hence comes straight down into, or at least close to, its own footprint, so that it does not fall over on surrounding structures.

As we saw above in the accounts that were previously available, both police and fire officials were quoted as saying that the towers seemed to implode. This perception was also stated in the oral history of Lieutenant James Walsh, who said: "The [north tower] didn't fall the way you would think tall buildings would fall. Pretty much it looked like it imploded on itself."35

Flashes: Another common feature of controlled demolitions is that people who are properly situated may see flashes when the explosives go off. Assistant Commissioner Stephen Gregory said: “I thought . . . before . . . No. 2 came down, that I saw low-level flashes. . . . Lieutenant Evangelista . . . asked me if I saw low-level flashes in front of the building, and I agreed with him because I . . . saw a flash flash flash . . . [at] the lower level of the building. You know like when they demolish a building, how when they blow up a building, when it falls down? That's what I thought I saw.”36

Flashes were reported in the north tower by Captain Karin Deshore, who said: “Somewhere around the middle of the World Trade Center, there was this orange and red flash coming out. Initially it was just one flash.”37

Demolition Rings: At this point, Deshore’s account moved to another standard phenomenon seen by those who watch controlled demolitions: explosion rings, in which a series of explosions runs rapidly around a building. Deshore’s next words were: “Then this flash just kept popping all the way around the building and that building had started to explode. The popping sound, and with each popping sound it was initially an orange and then a red flash came out of the building and then it would just go all around the building on both sides as far as I could see. These popping sounds and the explosions were getting bigger, going both up and down and then all around the building."38

An explosion ring (or belt) was also described by firefighter Richard Banaciski. Speaking of the south tower, he said: “[T]here was just an explosion. It seemed like on television [when] they blow up these buildings. It seemed like it was going all the way around like a belt, all these explosions.”39

A description of what appeared to be a ring of explosions was also given by Deputy Commissioner Thomas Fitzpatrick, who said: "We looked up at the [south tower] . . . . All we saw was a puff of smoke coming from about 2 thirds of the way up . . . . It looked like sparkling around one specific layer of the building. . . . My initial reaction was that this was exactly the way it looks when they show you those implosions on TV."40

Horizontal Ejections: Another feature of controlled demolition, at least when quite powerful explosives are used, is that things are ejected horizontally from the floors on which the explosions occur. Such ejections were mentioned in the testimony of Chief Frank Cruthers above. Similarly, Captain Jay Swithers said: “I took a quick glance at the building and while I didn't see it falling, I saw a large section of it blasting out, which led me to believe it was just an explosion.”41

Firefighter James Curran said: “When I got underneath the north bridge I looked back and . . . I heard like every floor went chu-chu-chu. Looked back and from the pressure everything was getting blown out of the floors before it actually collapsed."42

Battalion Chief Brian Dixon said: “I was . . . hearing a noise and looking up. . . . [T]he lowest floor of fire in the south tower actually looked like someone had planted explosives around it because . . . everything blew out on the one floor. I thought, geez, this looks like an explosion up there, it blew out."43

These reports by Curran and Dixon conform to what can be seen by looking at photographs and videos of the collapses, which show that various materials, including sections of steel and aluminum, were blown out hundreds of feet.44 Such powerful ejections of materials are exactly what would be expected from explosions powerful enough to cause such huge buildings to collapse.

Dust Clouds: The most visible material ejected horizontally from buildings during controlled demolition, especially buildings with lots of concrete, is dust, which forms more or less expansive dust clouds. Some of the testimonies about the collapse of the south tower mention that it produced an enormous amount of dust, which formed clouds so big and thick that they blocked out all light.

Firefighter Stephen Viola said: “You heard like loud booms . . . and then we got covered with rubble and dust, and I thought we'd actually fallen through the floor . . . because it was so dark you couldn't see anything."45

Firefighter Angel Rivera said: “That's when hell came down. It was like a huge, enormous explosion. . . . The wind rushed. . . , all the dust. . . and everything went dark."46

Lieutenant William Wall said: “[W]e heard an explosion. We looked up and the building was coming down right on top of us. . . . We ran a little bit and then we were overtaken by the cloud."47

Paramedic Louis Cook said that after the debris started falling, “everything went black” and “you couldn't breathe because [of] all the dust. There was just an incredible amount of dust and smoke.” He then found that there was, “without exaggerating, a foot and a half of dust on [his] car.”48

The kind of dust clouds typically produced during a controlled demolition can be seen on videos of the demolition of Seattle’s Kingdome and the Reading Grain Facility.49 If these videos are then compared with photos and videos of the collapses of the Twin Towers,50 it can be seen that the dust clouds in the latter are even bigger.51

Timed or Synchronized Explosions: Some people said that the collapses had the appearance of timed, synchronized demolitions. Battalion Chief Dominick DeRubbio, speaking of the collapse of the south tower, said: “It was weird how it started to come down. It looked like it was a timed explosion."52

Firefighter Kenneth Rogers said: "[T]here was an explosion in the south tower. . . . I kept watching. Floor after floor after floor. One floor under another after another and when it hit about the fifth floor, I figured it was a bomb, because it looked like a synchronized deliberate kind of thing. I was there in '93."53

Debates about Controlled Demolition

Given so many signs that the buildings had been brought down by controlled demolition, we might expect that debates about this issue would have taken place. And they did.

Firefighter Christopher Fenyo, after describing events that occurred after the first collapse, said: “At that point, a debate began to rage because. . . many people had felt that possibly explosives had taken out 2 World Trade, and officers were gathering companies together and the officers were debating whether or not to go immediately back in or to see what was going to happen with 1 World Trade at that point. The debate ended pretty quickly because 1 World Trade came down."54

Firefighter William Reynolds reported on a conversation he had with a battalion chief: “I said, ‘Chief, they're evacuating the other building; right?’ He said, ‘No.’ . . . I said, ‘Why not? They blew up the other one.’ I thought they blew it up with a bomb. I said, ‘If they blew up the one, you know they're gonna blow up the other one.’ He said, ‘No, they're not.’ I said, ‘Well, you gotta tell them to evacuate it, because it's gonna fall down and you gotta get the guys out.’ . . . He said, ‘I'm just the Battalion Chief. I can't order that.’ . . . I said, ‘You got a fucking radio and you got a fucking mouth. Use the fucking things. Empty this fucking building.’ Again he said, ‘I'm just a Battalion Chief. I can't do that.’ . . . Eventually this other chief came back and said, ‘They are evacuating this tower.’ . . . And sometime after that . . . I watched the north tower fall."55

As both accounts suggest, the perception that the south tower had been brought down by explosives may have resulted in fewer lives being lost in the north tower collapse than would otherwise have been the case.

Why Testimony about Explosions Has Not Become Public Knowledge

If so many witnesses reported effects that seemed to be produced by explosives, with some of them explicitly saying that the collapses appeared to be cases of controlled demolition, why is this testimony not public knowledge? Part of the answer, as I mentioned at the outset, is that the city of New York refused to release it until forced to do so by the highest court of the state of New York

But why did we have to wait for this court-ordered release to learn about these testimonies? Should not they have been discussed in The 9/11 Commission Report, which was issued over a year earlier? This Report, we are told in the preface, sought “to provide the fullest possible account of the events surrounding 9/11.” Why does it not include any of the testimony in the 9/11 oral histories suggestive of controlled demolition?

The answer cannot be that the Commission did not know about these oral histories. Although “[t]he city also initially refused access to the records to investigators from . . . the 9/11 Commission,” Jim Dwyer of the New York Times tells us, it “relented when legal action was threatened.”56 So the Commission could have discussed the testimonies about explosions in the oral histories. It also, in order to help educate the public, could have called some of the firefighters and medical workers to repeat their testimony during one of the Commission’s public hearings. But it did not.

Why, we may wonder, have the firefighters and medical workers not been speaking out? At least part of the reason may be suggested by a statement made by Auxiliary Lieutenant Fireman Paul Isaac. Having said that “there were definitely bombs in those buildings,” Isaac added that “many other firemen know there were bombs in the buildings, but they’re afraid for their jobs to admit it because the ‘higher-ups’ forbid discussion of this fact.”57

Would we not expect, however, that a few courageous members of the fire department would have contacted the 9/11 Commission to tell their story? Indeed. But telling their story to the Commission was no guarantee that it would find its way into the final report---as indicated by the account of one fireman who made the effort.

Firefighter Louie Cacchioli, who was quoted earlier, testified in 2004 to members of the Commission’s staff. But, he reported, they were so unreceptive that he ended up walking out in anger. “I felt like I was being put on trial in a court room,” said Cacchioli. “They were trying to twist my words and make the story fit only what they wanted to hear. All I wanted to do was tell the truth and when they wouldn’t let me do that, I walked out.”58

That Cacchioli’s experience was not atypical is suggested by janitor William Rodriguez, whose testimony was also quoted earlier. Although Rodriguez was invited to the White House as a National Hero for his rescue efforts on 9/11, he was, he said, treated quite differently by the Commission: "I met with the 9/11 Commission behind closed doors and they essentially discounted everything I said regarding the use of explosives to bring down the north tower.”59

When reading The 9/11 Commission Report, one will not find the name of Cacchioli, or Rodriguez, or anyone else reporting explosions in the towers. It would appear that the Commission deliberately withheld this information, as it apparently did with regard to Able Danger60 and many other things that should have been included in “the fullest possible account of the events surrounding 9/11.”61

The definitive report about the collapse of the towers was to have been provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). According to Rodriguez, however, this investigative body was equally uninterested in his testimony: “I contacted NIST . . . four times without a response. Finally, [at a public hearing] I asked them before they came up with their conclusion . . . if they ever considered my statements or the statements of any of the other survivors who heard the explosions. They just stared at me with blank faces.”62

In light of this report of NIST’s response, it is not surprising to find that its final report, which in the course of supporting the official story about the collapses ignores many vital issues,63 makes no mention of reports of explosions and other phenomena suggestive of controlled demolition.

Conclusion

It is sometimes said that the mandate of an official commission is, by definition, to support the official story. Insofar as that is true, it is not surprising that neither NIST nor the 9/11 Commission saw fit to discuss testimony suggestive of explosions in the Twin Towers, since this testimony is in strong tension with the official story.

At least most of those who offered this testimony did not, to be sure, mean to challenge the most important element in the official story about 9/11, which is that the attacks were entirely the work of foreign terrorists. For example, firefighter Timothy Julian, after saying that he “thought it was an explosion,” added: “I thought maybe there was a bomb on the plane, but delayed type of thing, you know secondary device.”64 Assistant Commissioner James Drury said: “I thought the terrorists planted explosives somewhere in the building.”65

The problem, however, is that a bomb delivered by a plane, or even a few explosives planted “somewhere in the building,” would not explain the many phenomena suggestive of controlled demolition, such as explosion rings and other features indicating that the explosions were “synchronized” and otherwise “timed.” As Mark Loizeaux, the head of Controlled Demolition, Inc., has explained, “to bring [a building] down as we want, so no one or no other structure is harmed,” the demolition must be “completely planned.” One needs “the right explosive [and] the right pattern of laying the charges.”66

The 9/11 oral histories, therefore, create a difficult question for those who defend the official story: How could al-Qaeda terrorists have gotten access to the Twin Towers for all the hours required to place all the explosives needed to bring down buildings of that size? It is primarily because they force this question that the testimony about explosions in the towers is itself explosive.

Surprisingly, after explaining how precisely explosives must be set to ensure that a building comes straight down, Loizeaux said that upon seeing the fires in the Twin Towers, he knew that they were "going to pancake down, almost vertically. It was the only way they could fail. It was inevitable." Given the fact that fire had never before caused tall steel-frame buildings to collapse, let alone in a way that perfectly mimicked controlled demolition, Loizeaux's statement was doubly puzzling. His company, incidentally, was hired to do the clean-up of the WTC site after 9/11.

I could not have written this essay without the amazingly generous help of Matthew Everett, who located and passed on to me most of the statements in the 9/11 oral histories quoted herein.

The Rant
The criminal conspiracy that destroys America
By
Jan 25, 2006, 01:26

Sadly, the President of the United States is a criminal. In fact, he should be arrested, tried and sentenced to life in prison as a repeat offender.

He is a war criminal who led this nation into an illegal conflict based on lies. His criminal conduct in the invasion of Iraq has led to the deaths of more than 2,000 American military men and women and countless thousands of Iraqi civilians.

He ripped the Constitution to shreds, ordering the National Security Agency, the Pentagon and other government agencies to spy on American citizens.

His administration trampled basic American freedoms, creating a police state through the Gestapo tactics of the Department of Homeland Security and the rights-robbing USA Patriot Act.

He lied to the American people about his close relationship with corrupt GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff, claiming he didn’t know the man who raised more than $100,000 for his campaign and visited the White House more than 200 times in his first year in office as well as trips to the ranch in Crawford, Texas.

He ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to withhold information about dangerous toxins dumped into the air over Manhattan when terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center.

His vice president met secretly with the CEOs of America’s top energy companies, cutting deals that gave those companies record profits while ripping off consumers at the gas pump.

Bush’s crimes against the Constitution and the American people began the day he took office and continue today. Each day brings new revelations of abuse of power, evasion of the law and disregard for basic rights of privacy.

Under Bush’s watch, the fears of George Orwell became all too real. The NSA routinely monitors phone calls of American citizens. The Defense Advance Research Projects Agency tracks routine travel and financial activities of Americans. The Pentagon sends infiltrators to spy on groups whose only crime is disagreement with the Iraq war or the other Draconian actions of the Bush administration.

America is now a totalitarian state ruled by a fascist dictator who hides behind phony claims that he is a “wartime president” who must usurp the Constitution to protect us from ourselves. Ironically, the “wartime president” is, in reality, a coward who hid out in the Texas Air National Guard to avoid his own service in wartime, a cardboard cowboy who sends others to die while he hides behind a legion of Secret Service agents who no doubt gag at the thought of taking a bullet for such a pathetic excuse for a leader.

But who protects us from the real enemy of freedom? That enemy resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, backed by a party that puts partisanship above patriotism, power above freedom and political expediency above justice.

I’ve come to the sad conclusion that the President of the United States is a madman, a raving lunatic driven by an insane lust for power, given to frequent outbursts of temper and out-of-control tantrums.

Bush has plunged this nation into a deepening Constitutional crisis, one that demands immediate action if we are to save what was once a great nation.

The last President to precipitate such a crisis, Richard M. Nixon, failed to destroy this nation because Congress, led by an opposition party, stepped up and took the actions necessary. But today’s Congress is ruled by criminally-complicit thugs who share Bush’s fanatical views.

Together, Bush and his Republican cronies in Congress have led America to ruin. Unfortunately, too many in this country have sat on their asses and let it happen.

"Osama" Propaganda

Clumsiness of new “Osama” propaganda: sign of increasing Bush administration desperation

Larry Chin | January 25 2006

Exactly one year ago, in response to a previous bogus "Osama" transmission, I wrote: "Like previous productions, the tape was conveniently timed to reinforce and invigorate Washington’s expanding war agenda, keep the populations of Western nations fearfully compliant and supportive of the Bush administration’s 'war on terrorism,' further provoke anti-Western sentiment in the Middle East, and distract from exploding political and economic fault lines all over the world. Analysis of previous alleged Osama bin Laden videos, and other loudly-promoted ‘terror tapes,' ‘arrests’ and 'trials,' have been exposed as propaganda, likely produced by operatives of the Bush administration . We can logically conclude that this work is more of the same.'

This latest production may be the clumsiest and most transparent fakery of them all. Today, with the Bush administration cornered and bleeding from scandals, in need of a distraction and cover for an atrocity in Pakistan, more justification for a future conquest of Iran, and facing Peak Oil and Gas-related collapse, it is a fine time for another wag, another attempt at the same old trick. But it is a trick that is losing its power.

One day after the initial broadcast, Al-Jazeera.com (not associated with the Al-Jazeera Space Channel TV Network that broadcast the Bin Laden tape) responded with Bin Laden tapes: fact or fiction?, a piece that questions the authenticity and too-convenient timing of this latest work, correctly suggesting the possibility of a US intelligence/Bush administration “wag the dog." In Latest Bin Laden Tape: Another of the NeoCons' 'Greatest Hits', Steve Watson points out, “even the BBC lays this out in the open with the headline Bin Laden threats may boost Bush:

“ ‘The commander-in-chief has been under intense pressure in recent weeks, accused of trampling on civil liberties in pursuit of terror suspects. His defence has been that America is a nation at war. So Bin Laden's latest threats to launch new attacks on the US will only serve to underline this argument.

“ ‘The White House will also cite the tape when trying to convince allies abroad that the use of tough tactics is justified - even when civilians are killed, as in last week's air raid in Pakistan.’

“That just says it all really.”

As Michel Chossudovsky points out in The Anglo-American War of Terror: An Overview:

“One of the main objectives of war propaganda is to ‘fabricate an enemy.' As anti-war sentiment grows and the political legitimacy the Bush Administration falters, doubts regarding the existence of this illusive ‘outside enemy’ must be dispelled.

“Propaganda purports not only to drown the truth but also to ‘kill the evidence’ on how this ‘outside enemy,' namely Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda was fabricated and transformed into ‘Enemy Number One.' The entire National Security doctrine centers on the existence of an ‘outside enemy’ which is threatening the Homeland.”

Even if he were real, “Osama," “Al-Qaeda” and the “war on terrorism” has exclusively served the political purposes of the Anglo-American empire, every moment that the Bush administration has needed a fabricated straw enemy. The irrefutable fact that Osama bin Laden, and Al-Qaeda, and all fabricated propaganda featuring their images, are creations of Anglo-American intelligence, and continue to serve faithfully as intelligence assets.

See: Who is Osama bin Laden? and Al-Qaeda:the database

Antiwar Left Targeted
As this writer previously noted, “if the case can be made that the tapes are, in fact, manufactured by US intelligence agencies, it stands to reason that the words out of the mouth of the Osama image have also been conceived, written and planted by these same agencies. It is therefore foolish to ‘read’ the tapes without this likely framework in mind . . . It is not a stretch to expect future bin Laden tapes to issue more specific planted facts about a variety of issues that the Bush administration wants American citizens to oppose. ”

Recall that the goal of the last round of “Osama” transmissions sought to ridicule 9/11 “conspiracy theories," and the concept that oil was behind the Anglo-American war of conquest. In this followup, the Bush administration wants Americans, and the entire world, to oppose the antiwar movement. If “Osama” the archfiend is talking peace, then peace, of course, is unacceptable.

In a January 21, piece, What's Not Right About the Bin Laden Tape, Wayne Madsen cuts to the heart of the Bush propaganda game:

“What's not right about the Osama Bin Laden tape. One thing that the Bush administration does well is manage perceptions of the public. Amid protests over the NSA wiretapping, the extension of the Patriot Act, and the nomination of neo-Fascist Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, an audio tape on Osama Bin Laden is sent to Al Jazeera. On the tape, Bin Laden suddenly veers from being a traditional right-wing Wahhabi fanatic to the right of the House of Saud to a leftist progressive. The tape by Bin Laden was quickly verified as ‘authentic’ by a CIA that is now firmly in the grasp of neo-cons under Porter Goss.

“However, the tape is an obvious fake being used by the Bush administration to scare Americans into believing ‘Al Qaeda’ is making plans for another attack and an attempt to link Bin Laden to Democrats.”

Madsen then gets to heart of the fakery:

“The reason the tape is as phony as Niger yellowcake documents and Saddam's weapons of mass destruction is as plain as day. ‘Bin Laden’ allegedly quotes from the introduction of a book written by long-time Washington, DC progressive author and journalist and a friend of mine, Bill Blum. Bill was once an editor and contributor to Covert Action Quarterly, a magazine devoted to exposing CIA operations like the arming, funding, and training of Bin Laden and his mujaheddin guerrillas during the Afghan-Soviet war.

“The Bush perception managers are either incredibly stupid or are trying to ensnare liberal journalists as aiders and abettors of Al Qaeda, something that is certainly within their scope. Bin Laden allegedly quotes the following passage from Blum's book, Rogue State: "If you (Americans) are sincere in your desire for peace and security, we have answered you. And if Bush decides to carry on with his lies and oppression, then it would be useful for you to read the book Rogue State, which states in its introduction: 'If I were president, I would stop the attacks on the United States: First I would give an apology to all the widows and orphans and those who were tortured. Then I would announce that American interference in the nations of the world has ended once and for all.'" However, this quote is not from Rogue State, again, pointing to a very bad forgery of the Bin Laden audiotape.”

Madsen correctly points out that historian Blum’s support for the Soviet war in Afghanistan makes a plug from “Osama” all the more ridiculous:

“So, we're now supposed to believe that Bin Laden has come around to plug the book written by an author who demonstrated that the Soviet cause in Afghanistan was for self-defense and in furtherance of the well-being of the Afghan people and that Bin Laden's and his mujaheddin compatriots' cause was anti-progressive and destabilizing to the central Asian region? This would be laughable if it were not for the fact that the neo-cons are once again using the Big Lie to further their ambitions of global domination and worldwide fascism. The 911 attacks are beginning to look more and more like the Reichstag Fire, both engineered to bring about fascist control.”

All signs point not to a transmission out of a mountain cave, but more likely out of a Langley, Virginia, office, and the desk of amateurish (and frankly, poorly-read) propaganda operatives.

In other ways, the new transmission is telling as a measure of how far the Bush administration has fallen. “Osama” is open to “a long-term truce on fair conditions," and a solution that “prevents the wasting of billions of dollars that have gone to those with influence, and merchants of war in America who have supported Bush’s election campaign with billions of dollars." These are almost the words of a neoliberal Democrat. Is this “Osama” talking peace -- or the Bush neocon propaganda writers conceding that its own game is so lost, that its favorite war propaganda image has had to be recharacterized and rescripted?

The inconsistency of the “voice” raises yet another question. It is time for some “Bin Laden expert” to explain how “Osama” has gone from the fanatical gibberish of previous transmissions, to the statesman-like, William Blum-gushing nuance of this new one.

Unfortunately, there are still plenty among the indoctrinated American sheeple who would still jump through this propaganda hoop in unquestioning and ignorant Pavlovian fashion, every time Dick Cheney tells them to. This includes the so-called antiwar Left, the majority of the Democratic Party faction, and elite Left “progressives," all of whom have enthusiastically supported the "war on terrorism" lie from day one -- serving the ultimate interests of the New World Order.

This includes William Blum himself, who apparently believes that “Osama” is alive and real, and that the transmissions have been authentic. His fine work notwithstanding, Blum’s own failure to grasp parapolitcal realities is symptomatic of a broader malady, which plays into the hand of Bush forces.

Perhaps the real end game of Bush propaganda forces is the creation of rifts and the sowing of even more dissension within the antiwar/anti-imperialist ranks, rendering the establishment of a massive and powerful antiwar movement impossible.

What the world must continue to take seriously is not a threatened strike by “Osama," but the violent desperation of a stumbling New World Order (the ultimate creator of “Osama," and the paymasters of “Al-Qaeda” and “Islamic terrorism”), and a Bush administration that will resort to anything to save itself. As it was on the morning of 9/11, all eyes must remain locked on the guilty parties in Washington and the openly criminal Bush administration, with the means, motive and opportunity to wreak havoc.

Kaminski’s new book recaps
the disintegrating history of
the 21st century

By John Kaminski
skylax@comcast.net

People are picking on me. They’re calling me a philandering Internet
gigolo Zionist dupe, willingly associating with others of that
ignominious ilk. Hence, everything I say should be disregarded, they
insist.

Fortunately for me, I simply stand by my stories, and defy you to tell
me I haven’t written the definitive history of the 21st century thus
far.

The U.S. government engineered 9/11 as a pretext for permanent war.
This bold plan was successful because of the media/pharmaceutical
anesthesitization of the American populace over a period of 40 years,
from the Kennedy assassination to the imminent beginning of World War
Three in Iran.

The real money has always been made in wars and financial collapses.
Current indicators are that we are about to get both.

The responsibility for this chosen course lies with the corporate
establishment, which has gentrified itself right out of the human
species.

What was it we were supposed to be doing while our neighbors were
dying, being murdered and desecrated for what .... America’s robotic
and heartless lies for the benefit of clever controllers who have
captured our entire lives, from our money to hearts and minds?

We go where they go. And I’m telling you, we don’t want to go there.

So when people cast aspersions my way, I just roll out my titles,
especially those in my new book, “Recipe for Extinction: John
Kaminski’s Internet essays, volume 3” which is coincidentally now for
sale on my website, http://www.johnkaminski.com/ even though I won’t be
mailing them until the end of February, we hope.

I stand by my stories, and most especially I stand by my titles as
accurate characterizations of what I have written. Consider, only for a
moment, the contents of “Recipe for Extinction” and tell me if this is
not what has happened.

• “Sick strategies for senseless slaughter” was a recap of links
proving U.S./Israeli complicity in the deaths of Americans in Iraq, as
well as how U.S. forces tricked everyday Iraqis into transporting bombs
into key locations, killing people in deceptive acts that were later
blamed on America’s phantom enemies, who are invented in the Pentagon
and thrust outward through media control of the minds of the populace.
See http://www.serendipity.li/iraqwar/slaughter.htm

• “Canary in the coal mine,” the parable of Ernst Zundel not being
allowed to utter a factual statement without legally offending the Jews
of the world; as a result, he has been held in prison for five years,
face five more, and will probably never get out because he insists on
telling the truth about the nonexistent gas chambers at Auschwitz
during World War Two. http://www.rense.com/general56/coal.htm

• “Letter to the FBI” is an apt portrayal of what today's FBI has
become, a cowardly secret police protecting the evil interests of the
powers that be at the expense of ordinary citizens trying to live
decent and honest lives.
http://www.rense.com/general59/lettertotheFBI.htm

• “The shattered glass” asks the question “what if we thought was
healthy was actually killing us?”
http://www.unitedstatesgovernment.net/theshatteredglass.htm

• “Peace, justice and honesty” asks, “Your parents didn't bring you up
to be killers, I don't think. Maybe they did and just won't admit it.”
http://www.rudemacedon.ca/kaminski/04/0718-peace.html

These are five of the 30 titles in the book, now for sale (for early
March delivery) on http://www.johnkaminski.com/

Thanks very much for your support and your kind words.

As regards those who would rather spend their time either supporting or
denigrating one group or another, and lure unfocused people into
unnecessary speculation about nonessential items, like who I might
REALLY work for, I stand by my stories, and these words:

Always play for the underdog.

I learned that watching Walt Disney's Davy Crockett on black-and-white
TV in the middle 1950s, typical white suburbia, in which unevolved
people who failed to perceive the trauma their lifestyles inflicted on
themselves and everybody else nevertheless followed civilized rules of
decorum and exhibited actual signs of highly structured intelligence in
myriad ways.

I learned that a constant bias toward helping anyone or thing who
needed it always came back to me with a bounty I could not have
anticipated prior to the action I took.

Since that time, the American mind has become dulled by the
technological virtuosity of its own ingenuity, and has lapsed back into
a flailing pursuit of hedonistic gratification interested in only the
maximum satiation of its own feverish desires.

Specifically we have forgotten — or willingly ignore — the greater
reality that we are more than ourselves, that none of us can exist
without others, and that in a state of love, where you willingly
sacrifice your own predilections for the polishing of that essential
other, your specific action returns a bounty one hundred times greater
than you ever could have expected before you took it.

Always be an umpire rather than a partisan

Since human intelligence does not know why we're here, what or where
our consciousness actually is, or that other 95 percent of the known
universe known as dark matter that the human mind cannot even
effectively engage — it is only known by deductive theory — why would
you ever think you have the final answer to anything? If you think you
do, then by definition you have put a blinding filter on actual
information you receive through your main windshield of consciousness,
no question about it.

The first bus left for Pluto yesterday. How do you think Jesus will
play in outer space? Just think of it! Cathedrals on Mars, more
monuments to the human fear of itself. Think you know how to call the
play. The best way is from behind the plate, with the mask on. Learn at
least to tell the difference between a home run and and fixed game.

Never give up your dreams, for anything.

Wherever you are at this moment, stop and give me five more seconds. I
never doubted for a moment that your heart was in the right place. It’s
only the dogma I’m after, mistaken presuppositions that drown our lives
in shadows and sadness, and lead us to kill others for a grievance we
have created in ourselves from our fear. This is why everything is
happening as it is now. I have no other message. Be who you hope to be.

So why would what I say be so objectionable?

Here’s the short answer.

Because what I am constantly attacking is a lie.

And the world runs on lies. On sleight of hand. On enforced dogma, that
is also known in more polite parlance as consensual opinion.
“Manufactured Consent” was the good Chomsky/Herman term.

Right now most of the world is just learning that the forces that
control them are manufactured by tyrants pressing buttons in glass
skyscrapers. And we’re all groping in the terminology to identify the
actual perpetrators of our misery.

And actually, that’s not hard. You know their names.

But we get lost, sidetracked into futile remonstrations. Drowned out in
the white noise of habit and comfort. As the big meat grinder creeps
closer to all these fabulous condos in paradise we’ve created, there is
a tsunami brewing in the collective human consciousness that will, in
one way or another, for sure, engulf all of us.

And whether the crest of that wave is the for real beginning of an
actual World War Three looms as a likely physical manifestation of the
very thing that is compelling the human species to destroy itself.
Somebody’s profiting from making it happen.

I pride myself on being able to adapt to new information, and to alter
my fundamental view of the world on the basis of better-argued points
of view. Among other things, this helps me to better appreciate people
from other cultures who are not like myself.

But unfortunately, given the crisis that has been created by the media,
banks and governments all seeking to squeeze in the fastest way
possible every last drop of profitable blood out of every conceivable
nook and crannie, we’re screwed, grist for the mill, the ingredients of
a fortune cookie that is not completely of our own making. Soylent
Green, if you know what I mean.

Shifting the spotlight of blame onto someone is not in itself a hostile
action, because enmity can cloud fair judgment, and when all is said
and done, all these human political and religious pronouncements are
merely cut-and-dried, epidemiological data of the self-persecution
complex of the human race.

I have to get this because .... it was so important to me.

Harrumph! — You’ve offended my honor!

Where was it you were going? And so fast.

So look at where it has gotten us.

The garden smolders, and we whistle our brittle metallic tunes that
drown out the harmony of the very things we need — pine needles, a
harmonica, and a warm family on a summer evening.

This should be life on earth.

But it’s not what we have.

Ask yourself why.

Will you fight for your life, or run from it?

How much will we let them take from us before we rise up and take it
back?
